I had an older PS3 with the 80GB HDD that was running out of the room. I use an external USB for all my audio and video files but do have a few games saved on this system. It had been running a bit slow and was running out of the room. The system files take up nearly half the space! I purchased this item because we have used them at work before on laptops and they worked great.
It arrived at my house 2 days after it shipped. Very nicely packaged and protected from the vendor. They used more than enough bubble wrap and I was not worried about it having been mishandled during shipping. I almost felt tempted to drop it and test how well it had been packaged but resisted the urge.
The drive comes with a full manufacturer warranty and the detailed invoice from the supplier tracks the serial number of the drive for you in case you have any issues in the future. It took me about 5 minutes to swap out the old HDD and insert this into my PS3 and get it up and running.
I also installed a few games and some add on packs afterward and noticed the time to install took way less than when I had to download the same content on my old drive. Overall very pleased. I will update if anything comes up but so far so good.
This is another honest review from my friend, "This saved my Sony Vaio :-) The hard drive was failing and I put a new, bigger hard drive in and had issues. Some Sony Vaio must have some hidden firmware that means they won't work unless the hard drive is the same as the old one - or at least the same size.
Not only would it not accept recovery discs, but it overheated when I tried to do a clean install. I tried two new hard drives in it - a 250GB SSD and 500GB bog standard hard drive. Same issues with both. Eventually, I posted on a Sony forum and found I needed the 'same' hard drive.
The same hard drive isn't available as it was Sata I. So I bought this one - same make as the old one (Toshiba), same size (320GB), same speed (5400rpm) - the only difference was it was SATA II instead of Sata I. And all is fine - yay. Installed from recovery discs and am up and running again.
I hope this helps someone else with similar issues. Sony's apparently can't handle SATA III hard drives especially if they are 'Advanced Format' which most of them are. They need "Standard Format" which is SATA II or earlier. Very annoying of Sony when our other laptop will take any old drive, any make, and any speed.
On the other hand, this drive was a good buy - cheap and slightly faster than the old one. A very good buy from a reputable company.
